"We couldn't Stop raving about the salad, then we couldn't stop raving about the appetizers, then we couldn't stop raving about the entrees. Everything Top Notch has to offer is absolutely fabulous. From soup to nuts, everything on the menu is exceptional. Top Notch has a very extensive menu on a daily basis with a large selection of specials to choose from on weekends. There is a large variety of chicken and pasta with an unusually large selection of veal dishes. Of course, there are also those special German dishes you won't find anywhere else. Every entree is a culinary masterpiece and the portions are very generous. Chef Stender, who is also the proprietor, is a master with sauces. Each dish possesses the most delicate blend of spices in a one-of-a-kind sauce while maintaining a light taste. Nothing tastes heavy. I think one of the reasons this restaurant is so exceptional is that the spices are perfectly blended. That quality makes this an automatic "favorite" restaurant. We started off with the special "Top Notch" salad which consisted of baby mesclun greens, cut just the right size, with walnuts and small chunks of brie in a light vinaigrette that brought out the flavor of the greens without overpowering the salad. This is one of the most delicious salads I have ever tasted. The appetizers are tremendous with an emphasis on the sea. Shrimp Martinique is a must. The shrimp are wrapped in prosciutto with melted mozzarella in the most tremendous sauce that hints of garlic. Another fabulous appetizer is Crudite Portobello. Portobello mushrooms with shrimp, scallops, fried zucchini and very tender calamari. There are several chicken dishes to choose from. I highly recommend the Chicken Provencal. This is one of the tastiest chicken dishes to be found. Four of the most tender chicken breasts, sauteed in a delicious garlic butter topped with Roma tomatoes and set on thick slices of French bread. This is so tender it cuts easily with a fork. Another great chicken dish is the Chicken Breast Zingara. These sauteed breasts are topped with spicy stir-fried vegetables in a heavenly brown sauce and is truly a meal in itself. How about Manchester Farm Roast Chicken? Slow roasted with fresh herbs and served with an apple stuffing. This dish is only found at Top Notch. If you like veal then you must dine here. There are so many veal dishes to choose from. I suggest the Veal Florentine. A large veal cutlet with spinach and ricotta in a rosemary dressing. Veal or Capon Monte Carlo is another unique entree. It's layered with prosciutto, eggplant and melted mozzarella with a roasted pepper garnish. In the mood for fish? Salmon is served any way you like it and I guarantee you will love it. Perhaps you would prefer it in Fettuccini. This version features the salmon smoked with parmesan cheese and Alfredo sauce. The desserts here are wonderful. The Pasta Cart has a nice variety of regular and unusual selections, all of which are as pleasing to the palate as they are appealing to the eye. This is one of New Jersey's finest restaurants. Whether you come for dinner or hold your special event here, you will not be disappointed in the great cuisine or the charming decor." |
